Tollesbury Marina at sunset.
7th June 2022
One of the great pleasures of joining the Baddow Camera Club is getting to visit local places of interest. The weekly indoor meetings have ended to be replaced by outdoor location shooting while the sun shines! So this time we were at Tollesbury Marina for a BBQ by Tollesbury Lido. I had visited here in February with the club for a sunrise shoot, so didn't get to explore much other than the red lightship. But today we were to walk around the sea wall in the hope of seeing a great sunset. The light was lovely and soft but a brilliant sunset was elusive. There were plenty of seabirds to photograph here and to shoo away from our food as it was cooking.
Well, the sunset could have been better but the walk along the sea wall was still interesting. There were people out tending to they boats, and you can see the tendrils of broad walks over the marshes. You do not want to put a foot into this mud or you might get stuck or disappear!
Of course it always helps to look away from where the sun sets as sometimes that can produce a more interesting shot. The photo below shows the square blocks of the Bradwell nuclear power station over the other side of the Blackwater River in the far distance.
I was quite surprised to find a herd of cattle grazing in the salt marshes and I wondered how many fall into the many ditches? I'd heard of salt marsh lamb as a speciality, but know nothing about salt marsh beef. Anyway we were heading back to our cars now as the light was going. Even so, the clouds had lifted a little to allow for one more glimpse of colour over the marina.
