Garn Goch is one of the largest Iron Age hill fort sites in Wales. The two forts are called Y Gaer Fawr (the big fort) and Y Gaer Fach (the little fort). Legend has it that Caradog, one of the leaders of the native British resistance to the Roman invaders, used this fort for his defences. But his defences did not hold for long against the powerful Roman army.

Today the forts are just piles of stone rubble but it is easy to see why they were located here with the commanding view for miles around.

We encountered a couple of other walkers here, but otherwise this was the realm of purple heather, green ferns, and sheep!

At the base of the hill, nearer to the carpark, was a stone memorial to Gwynfor Evans, the first Plaid Cymru MP.
