After stopping in I Utama shopping mall in Petaling Jaya for lunch, we headed for a hill in Kuala Selangor! Hanis had said we would be trekking up a hill, so we had to buy chocolate cake to take with us as a reward! Well, we found the hill (Bukit Malawati) but parked half way up, so didn’t really deserve the cake after all. Travelling around Malaysia is all about food and the next place to stop and eat!
The coastal town of Kuala Selangor was the old royal capital of Selangor: click here for more information.

This hill area was one of the best so far in having historic artefacts and explanations. The museum had a lot of information which was even unknown to Hanis, but all in all there was rather too much reading to be done. The hill top also had the most beautiful rain trees with huge canopies (see photo above).

As you approach the top of the hill, you cannot but notice the lighthouse perched on top. The coast line of the Malacca Straits seems a long way away though.

And, as you looked out from the cannon battery, you rapidly find yourself surrounded by monkeys! These could be fed with long beans from the local vendor and the monkeys appeared quite tame towards humans, but quite aggressive towards each other. There are silvered leaf langur monkeys (the dark grey ones), and long-tailed macaques (the brown ones).
