Kaohame collection

At many tourist sites in Hokkaido we came across these large boards where you poked your head through a hole and someone took a photo. The one above was taken at a flower garde in Biei, and after this experience, we decided to poke our heads through every board we found!

Kaohame roughly means “to insert face”, and in the ex-British Consulate in Hakodate this phenomenon had become a quite sophisticated form of a selfie. In addition to a hole for your head, there was a hole for you camera which took a photo of the mirror-reflection on the other side. Very smart but not easy to use.
