Jakarta - the Capital City of Indonesia

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, located at the northwest coast of the island of Java. It had noteably changed since we were here in 1992, with many more highways running through the city centre and a forest of modern skyscrapers. We though were interested in the old Jakarta, or Batavia as it would have been known in the days of Thomas Stamford Raffles and the British Interregnum.

We arrived here in the late afternoon, so walked around the National Monument area as it was closest to our hotel. The next day our guid Mr. Hari, took us on the Jakarta Old Batavia Tour which I have divided into three sections for convenience.
