
This shrine is dedicated to Nikko’s sacred mountains, and is far more subtle than the Tokugawa Shrine. There was a separate area around the back, with an extra entrance fee, so we opted not to explore to the full.
At night time for festivals, the path up to this temple would have been marked by lanterns in these stone lamp posts.


We both remembered seeing these sake barrels from our previous visit. Sake is an integral part of Shinto religious ceremonies, but these barrels are empty.
