Why read Lawrence's Stories?
Damn! Is the adventure over?
I've been on a thirty year gap year, living and traveling throughout Asia. I arrived in Hong Kong in 1989 as a writer and script editor on a Yorkshire TV cop show. It was about hairy chested Hong Kong cops blasting away evil Triads with the biggest pump action bananas in TV history. For some reason my esoteric taste for absurd theatre and stream of conscious novels, translated into an ability to write hardcore action featuring multi-cultural casting in exotic lands.
That TV series changed my life because it paid off my mortgage and exposed me to a wide open world. Hong Kong slapped me round the face and exploded upon my psyche with a whole weird and wonderful alien planet that I felt destined to write about. I thus could never leave Hong Kong and had to stay, free of all the angst of my little English scribbling life. But now, we are back in Britain and I wonder if the Britain I so eagerly escaped from, is the same one that I am coming back to. Has the adventure finished? Am I back where I started?
I hope not! I hope that the UK can now excite me as much as Hong Kong did. Find out if it does by following The Goodness Grays.
Oh yes, why that title? Well, our pal Hanis in Malaysia suggested we should call it Goodness Gracious dot Me. So we did, more or less.
