Nagore Dargah Shrine

 MG 2407

The Nagore Dargah Shrine serves as the Indian Muslim Heritage Centre to introduce visitors to the Chulia culture. It was built between 1828 and 1830, again at a time when this street would have been a sandy beach. These Tamil Muslims came from the Coromandel Coast of India, and settled in Penang, Malacca and Singapore as they were involved in the maritime trade of the region. Inside this building you can see interesting displays of the everyday objects which immigrants would have brought with them when they left India for a new life in the up and coming Singapore.
