To reach the Taiyuinbyo Shrine (the mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu), we walked up hill through tree-lined paths and it started to rain. Thunderstorms had been predicted but thankfully they stayed away. Being the grandson of the first Tokugawa shogun, this shrine had to be less ostentatious than the Tokugawa Shrine. Nevertheless, it is still pretty impressive.

Japanese temples always have a fresh water supply for purification before entering the temples. But we found the cool water so refreshing in the still stiffling heat that we purified our hands many many times this day!
