Loch Fyne Oysters
4th July 2022
One of many foodie treats on this holiday was the restaurant 'Loch Fyne Oysters', north west of Glasgow. It is only open at lunchtime and I highly recommend it. Lawrence had the oysters and the rest of us had scallops with black pudding and carrot/ginger puree. It was absolutely delicious! The two of us had the langoustines and two had smoked salmon Japanese style. Also excellent. And who couldn't resist a desert! The menu was full of mouth watering temptations and there's a decent wine list too. I bought some of their smoked salmon to bring home; wish I'd bought more!
The photo below is the view from the carpark at Loch Fyne Oysters. It was a grey day with the sky full of clouds, but the scenery is stunning none the less.
Driving to Loch Fyne required driving up the west coast of Loch Lomond; a notorious black spot for slow driving. As our journey was not held up anywhere, we had time to spare before our lunch booking, so made a detour beside Loch Restil and found a small cafe called the 'Rest and be Thankful' cafe, near the Rest and be Thankful viewpoint. The photo below is near Cairndow (on A83 just before Loch Fine Oysters) and you can see the white buildings of Inveraray in the distance.
On our return drive back to Glasgow we drove on the banks of Loch Lomond and in this direction we could easily pull over to take a good look. At Luss we saw two young ladies shivering on the jetty after a brief swim in the loch.
What was very noticeable here was the isolation and remoteness of these towns north of Loch Lomond, and the lack of tourists given that this was the holiday season of July! So, my plea to you readers is that if you are spending any time in Glasgow, do head out in this direction and enjoy the stunning views, the tasty food, and the way of life away from the city.
