We first met a 1/10th scale version of The Kelpies in Irvine, but this does not really prepare you for the real thing! These 30-metre high horse-head sculptures were created by Andy Scott in 2013 . They serve as reminders of the long history of using heavy horses in Scottish industry. These Clydesdale horses are named Duke and Baron and they sit proudly alongside the Forth and Clyde canal.
You walk from the carpark along the canal to The Kelpies and in the process had to pass a family of swans with six cygnets! The parents were very protective of their youngsters so you needed to take a wide berth around them as swans can be quite aggressive. It was the dog walkers who had most difficult passing by the swans, so we were OK.
There is little more to say about The Kelpies, but they were so photogenic that I have to include some more photos! You can return at nighttime to see these horses lit up, but we had to get back to Glasgow for another foodie treat!
