Much of the plant life of the Serengeti is comprised of grasses and trees, but there are a few flowering plants as shown below. I did not take photos of every plant I saw as it was not really practical to do so. I can report that the grasses were a real nuisance as they would leave barbed spiky bits in my socks and shoes, and thorns cut through my trousers and into my legs. Long sticky grasses also tried to trip one up, so walking through this stuff was hard work!
A Whistling Acacia bush. The plant produces these bulb-like structures to provide housing for ants which in turn help prevent the bush being eaten. The ants make a hole in the bulb to access the space, and it is this which produces the whistling sound when the wind blows.

From a distance, the plains look devoid of colour but it is there!
