
As part of our city tour, we were taken to the Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple which is a large complex overlooking Sandakan. It is very colourful inside but had a sterile quality of formality; something I do not normally associate with functioning Chinese temples.





The view from our hotel room shows the coastline of Sandakan, and many families still live in wooden stilt houses. We visited such an area just beyond the mosque you can see in the distance below.
