Cats seem to be ubiquitous anywhere near food stalls, and they all look pretty healthy. Indeed it was noticeable that the cows, goats and sheep around Sukalayar looked better fed than usual. All these animals are creatures of habit, so if driving at the wrong time of day, you just have to wait until they have crossed the road, in their own time.

The sheep do not get sheared here, presumably no one has any use for the wool. As a result, they have a Rastafarian style about them, enhanced by the colourful chains around their necks.

At Tanjung Penyabong I saw some horses munching away…..

and on the jetty was a little sparrow eating something.

As we drove out of Penyabong on our return journey, we spotted a white-bellied sea-eagle soaring high ahead of us.

And as we drove further, we came across a huge band of pig-tailed Macaque monkeys sitting at the side of the road. It would seem that cars stop and throw food to them. We opted not to open the car windows to take photos because the alpha males were huge and very quick to move. So, my photos were taken through the front windscreen which makes them a little fuzzy. But I have included the photos because I think you will get a good idea of what these animals looked like.

Most of the monkeys were aiming for the windows on the other side to me, but a youngster and a female came quite close to my side window so I was able to get a slightly sharper photo.
