To the right of the clock tower was this yellow structure, called Tambatan Diraja (Royal Mooring).
The Clock Tower.

According to the sign on the clock tower (Menara Jam Tambatan Diraja), it was closed. But a local guy saw us and asked if we wanted to go up the tower? We paid our fee, he gave us some binoculars, and warned us to be down by 7 pm when he would lock it up. So we wended our way up the spiral staircase to the top. Well almost to the top, for although there was a step ladder to the true top, and no barrier to stop us, we felt we had gone far enough. Outside we had a fantastic 360 degree view of Kota Bharu, and I am so glad we had access to this location. It was quite windy at this height, and the structure felt quite fragile, so we were glad to make our way slowly down.
Here are the views of the city, looking away from the river (east), with the Kelantan flag on top a very tall flagpole.
This is the view looking south along the Kelantan River and towards the Grand Riverview Hotel on the left.
And finally, the setting sun looking due west.
