Today, Lawrence and I presented our documentary ‘The Hidden History of Johor Lama’ to 23 members of the International Women's Association (IWA) of Johor Bahru, and the location for this event was a small studio in the Jeiwa Power House (Lot 2F-11, Level 2, Paradigm Mall, near Toys R Us). This was a delightful shop/cafe/workshop space and I thoroughly encourage you to visit, particularly if you are looking for locally produced gifts.
Fadilah Nizar is the Founder and President of Jeiwa Global Resources and her aim is to support disadvantaged women and give them the skill set to become self-sufficient. They might be single mothers with families to support and perhaps they like to make cookies, beauty products, craftwork at home. She is their enabler.

This space also has a small classroom space and theatre stage for performances or demonstrations of skills.
After our show, we stopped to have a light lunch here (which was excellent) and chat with Fadilah. So, if you are shopping in Paradigm Mall, please take a little detour to Jeiwa Power House and I am pretty sure you will go away with something in your shopping bag!
Here are a few photos to give you an idea of what’s available. There were also ceramic water cooler dispensers, but I did not get a photo of those. I was particularly taken by the tiffin boxes so will be going back later to shop!

In addition, the tables you sit at and the lamp shades you sit under are all for sale.

The hardwood tables turned out to be multi-functional. They are made from Cengal, Balau and Merbau, so are ideal outdoor furniture. Here is a picnic table set which can be transformed into a chair.

And, the bench table we ate our lunch at opened up to reveal a games table. Its benches also slide under the table to make space when not in use. Really amazing designs on show here.

So, an opportunity here to shop and help the women of the area at the same time.
