The Temple of Fine Arts Johor Bahru (TFAJB) is located at 19, Jalan Dapat, 80100 Johor Bahru, and has been serving the community of Johor Bahru for the last 25 years. It is a not-for-profit voluntary organisation dedicated to the development and enrichment of the performing arts. It is run entirely by volunteers whose motto is “to lead a good life, engage in the arts”. Here the principle arts are music (learn to play the sitar or tabla) and dance. And these arts need to be fed, TFAJB has a great lunchtime restaurant for vegetarians. There is no set menu and no price system, you just donate what you feel is appropriate.
To celebrate its birthday and to promote awareness of its activities, TFAJB is currently hosting a selection of music and dance performances by students and teachers. Several performances have already occurred (see posters below), but you still have time to take part in events on 5th - 7th October and even enroll for new classes on 8th October.
This afternoon I saw some of the students practicing, but sadly I am not free to attend tonight’s show and will miss what should be a great performance by Shri Shankar Kandasamy.

With the Deepavali celebrations coming soon, you can come here to buy a new outfit, a new sari and/or some jewellery. Products sold here are made by their sister organisation in India which helps provide opportunities for single mums to gain employment.

If you are looking for a gift to take when invited to celebrate Deepavali, they can prepare hampers for you. Advance orders are needed as the foodstuffs need to be freshly prepared, details can be found on their FB page .

If you think you might be interested in learning some Indian arts, or perhaps improve those Bollywood dance moves for your next party, the TFAJB would love to hear from you.
Their current building is in need of repair and plans are afoot to build a new facility in the same location, hopefully within 3 years. So, please follow their FB page and look out for announcements of upcoming shows.
