Kota Kinabalu When we lived in Hong Kong prior to moving to Malaysia, we had several brief holidays in Kota Kinabalu as it was a convenient flight away and always relaxing with lovely sunsets over the beach. There is much to see and do further inland from the coast, but have not done that. Our more recent trip again focussed more on the beach.

Labuk Bay You have probably come to Sabah to see the orangutans, and they are interesting, but these monkeys are truely worth spending time with as well.

Sandakan Most visitors arrive in Sandakan enroute to see the orangutans, etc, but there is more to the area than just this. Try and read any of Agnes Keith trilogy about life in Sandakan for a personal account of life in the jungles, as a prisoner of war, and of the reconstruction of Sandakan after WW2. I was able to find these books in the Sandakan Airport departure lounge, but not in Arrivals. The Sandakan Memorial Park tells of the death march of hundreds of Australian soldiers, and is well worth a visit.
