Hanis had already snuck off to this shop several times before today, such is her love of Keropok Lekor! Keropok is a mixture of fish, sago flour, salt and sugar, and originates from Terengganu. And keropok lekor is basically a fish sausage, and definitely an acquired taste. We were able to go inside and watch the young ladies making these delicacies, which one fries and eats as a snack with a spicy sauce.

There are other forms of keropok such as keropok keping which are wafer thin slices of fish sausage mixture which you deep fry, a bit like prawn crackers. Every spare space in Hanis’s car boot seemed to be occupied with various forms of keropok! And as we drove along the coast road towards Kota Bharu, many many roadside stalls were advertising these foods.
