In late October 2014, Lawrence and I had the good fortune to spend a week in Istanbul, Turkey. We stayed in the Emporium Hotel, right opposite Istanbul University where I was attending a conference. This was an excellent location for a visitor; we could walk to all the major tourist sights and we could hop on the tram to take us across the river and finally up to Taksim Square. This was a city though for walking in. We walked for miles and miles, got lost many times, but were never bored by the vibrancy of the old parts of the city. Of course I took far too many photos, some of which are presented in the following pages, hopefully to tempt you to visit this beautiful city.
