I knew that Myanmar was the land of temples, but I was not prepared for the sheer number and variety of temples. We visited Yangon, Bagan and Inle Lake, and took many many photos. I would like to share this wonderful adventure with you here. The language is hard to read and remember, but saying ‘mingalabar’ as a greeting of ‘hello’ will always get a smile.
In summary, the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon (shown above) was outstanding and my photos do not do justice to the scale and majesty of this place.
In Bagan, a hot air balloon ride at dawn allowed us to see the full scale of the area covered in temples, which shows the power of the Pagan Kingdom in the 11th century.

And, at Inle Lake, we saw stupas everywhere and a life which revolved around the magic of the lake. But the surprise was the Food Tour of Khaung Daing village which we discovered simply by walking out of our hotel on our off day.

We booked this trip through Scott Dunn, visiting Yangon, Bagan, and Inle Lake. In each destination, we gave ourselves two days travelling/touring followed by one day to ourselves. We had excellent guides throughout and they were indispensible in arranging travel and explaining what we were seeing. But I must make a special mention of our driver in Bagan and the boatman in Inle Lake, who made our travels stress-less and more enjoyable for that.
